Beloved toddler makes it home for the holidays

The situation

In Henry County, a 2-year-old child faced an uncertain future after being separated from their maternal family. Despite being in a nurturing foster home, the ultimate goal was to reunite the child with their biological family while preserving the strong bond with the foster parents.

The facilitation

Michelle, our KTF Specialist, was determined to bridge the gap between the foster parents and the maternal family and facilitated regular meetings to help establish trust and open communication. Both families expressed a commitment to the child’s well-being, allowing for a collaborative plan to be developed for the best possible outcome for all.

The outcome

Just three days before Thanksgiving, the 2-year-old was reconnected with their maternal family. The foster parents, who had built an incredible bond with the child and sought to maintain a connection, offered to serve as a backup caregiver for the child whenever the material family needed. This story highlights the power of teamwork and compassion in creating lasting bonds for children and families.
